By: Jeremy Anderson Posted at: 02/04/2013 08:45 AM
(WindCavePark) – The final year of a three-year study to monitor elk movements inside and outside Wind Cave National Park is scheduled to begin Wednesday, February 6. Thirty-six elk are expected to be captured and collared Wednesday or Thursday using nets deployed from a helicopter.
As with previous elk capture operations, all animal handling will take place in the field. This will likely be away from any roads or access points making this aspect of the operation difficult to photograph.
This operation will be closed to the public. If you have any questions you can call 605-745-4600 or you may also call the parks public information office 605-745-1130.
