(Neb.)-Gering Police Chief Griggs Announces Retirement
GERING, Neb. (AP) - Longtime Gering Police Chief Mel Griggs has announced his retirement.
Griggs submitted his letter of resignation to the city council Monday night.
Griggs' resignation will be effective March 1.
Griggs has served in law enforcement for 45 years and was Gering's police chief for the past 23 years. Griggs says he's retiring because his financial adviser says he can now afford to do it.
Gering City Administrator Lane Danielzuk says two captains in the department, Jason Rogers and George Holthus, will share the duties of the police chief until the position is filled.
