(Neb.)-Panhandle Polar Plunge Event To Raise Money For SONE  Listen

By: Jeremy Anderson Posted at: 01/29/2013 11:32 AM

(Chadron)- The middle of winter isn’t the time you’d expect to take a dip in the thirty five degree North Platte River that runs through the middle of Scottsbluff and Gering, but one event in February is doing just that.

The Polar Plunge, which helps organizations like the Nebraska Special Olympics, will celebrate its 16th year in Nebraska and will be held for the second consecutive year in Scottsbluff on February 23rd at the YMCA Camp.

Katie Ryan, Director of Development for the Special Olympics of Nebraska tells KCSR News why it’s so important to take the plunge.

The plunge is currently taking place in five Nebraska cities that include Lincoln, Omaha, Auburn, Kearney, and Scottsbluff, but Ryan says they hope that more communities will get involved and expand.

If submerging into the icy cold winter water isn’t for you, Ryan says that there are plenty of events that occur year round to help benefit the Special Olympics of Nebraska.
