(Neb.)-Pool Project On Agenda For Special Chadron City Council Meeting  Listen

By: Roxie Graham-Marski Posted at: 01/28/2013 08:17 AM

(CHADRON)-The Chadron city council is holding another special meeting this Monday, January 28th, at 6:00 p.m. The agenda will include discussion regarding the proposed swimming pool project and professional services agreement with Burbach Aquatics, which the council decided to delay at their last regularly scheduled meeting.
Council member Bill Barth says he didn’t feel ready to address the pool issue at the last meeting.

Other members of the council would like to wait on the swimming pool project until the stormwater project is brought to a city-wide vote. City manager Wayne Anderson agrees that the timing may not be the best, but he fears waiting too long to make a decision on this separate opportunity could prove its demise.

He says time is of the essence because Chadron State College, which will be a major partner in the pool project, is in need of a pool and in need of a commitment.

Anderson says he’s not completely sure what additional information he can provide to the council at this point, because the first phase of the contract with Burbach Aquatics will be to answer questions regarding which specifics will be included in the project as well as a likely cost and funding sources.

However, Anderson says he is more than willing to provide whatever information he can. He also hopes to have Dave Burbach in town to visit with the council sometime in the near future to help answer questions and alleviate concerns. Anderson says Burbach really knows his business; he has had 25 straight referendum successes in the past and has built more than 600 pools.
Also on the agenda at the special meeting, discussion regarding the LB 840 Economic Development Sales Tax, proposed changes to the city employee personnel manual, and the bid process for the purchase of city vehicles. The meeting is open to the public.
