(Wyo.)- Lawmakers Consider Bill Requiring Photo ID To Vote

By: Jeremy Anderson Posted at: 01/25/2013 10:47 AM

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - A Wyoming state Senate committee is considering a bill that would require voters to show a valid photo identification card to cast their ballot.

The committee heard testimony on the measure Thursday and will discuss it again on Tuesday.

Republican state Sen. Ogden Driskill of Devils Tower, the sponsor of the bill, says it's not an attempt to stop anyone from voting but would ensure voters are who they claim to be and that they are in the correct precinct.

The League of Women Voters opposes the bill. Marguerite Herman, a member of the group's board, says there is little evidence of voter fraud in Wyoming.

Republican state Sen. Charles Scott of Casper says "mis-voting" occurs in Wyoming. He says voters frequently give wrong addresses.
