(Wyo.)-Education Reform, Fuel Tax Before Legislature This Week

By: Roxie Graham-Marski Posted at: 01/14/2013 09:09 AM
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - The Wyoming Legislature is set to act on three major issues this week.

A proposal to raise fuel taxes is set to go before the House Revenue Committee on Monday.

Hiking the state tax on gasoline from 14 cents to 24 cents would generate more than $70 million a year for state and federal road projects.

The other major bill moving this week is a measure to reduce the powers of the state's top public schools official. The Senate Education Committee on Friday unanimously endorsed the bill and it's likely to hit the Senate floor this week for debate.

Finally, members of the Legislature's Joint Appropriations Committee plan to have their proposed supplemental budget bill done by the end of the week.
