(Neb.)-Nebraska Game And Parks To Burn Slash Piles North Of Harrison
By: Jeremy Anderson Posted at: 01/10/2013 10:38 AM
(Harrison)-The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is expecting safe burning conditions, including snow and cold temperatures over the next week, and is planning on burning 69 slash piles on the Gilbert-Baker Wildlife Management Area north of Harrison.
These are small hand-stacked piles left over from thinning operations over the last couple years along Monroe Canyon Road. Preparations are also underway for burning 9 large whole-tree piles on the area, but this will occur at a later date and only under suitable weather conditions.
The objective for the tree thinning and burning of the slash piles is fuels reduction. Any questions can be directed to Greg Schenbeck, Wildlife Area Manager, or Michael Broom, Cooperative Forester, at (308) 665-2924.
