(Neb.)-Fireworks Legal For New Year's Eve
(Chadron)-New Year’s Eve brings thoughts from most people of celebrating the ringing in of the New Year. While many people may visit their favorite night club or local hot spot, some may choose to use fireworks to celebrate the event.
According to Chadron Building and Zoning Official Janet Johnson, the lighting of fireworks on New Year’s Eve is legal beginning at 5 pm on December 31, running through 1 am on January 1. This is a state-wide ordinance, but Johnson said the City adopted it into the Municipal Code.
Although it is legal to light fireworks, there are no fireworks stands set up in Chadron. However, there are locations in South Dakota where they are available for sale. People in Nebraska wanting to purchase fireworks in South Dakota need to remember that not all items sold across the border are legal in Nebraska. Those wishing to use fireworks to celebrate should check with local law enforcement to make sure items used are legal in the state.
