(S.D.)-Lawrence County Emergency Management Official Earns Statewide Award
LEAD, S.D. – The South Dakota Emergency Management Association recently honored Ken Hawki of Deadwood with the 2012 Blote-Buck Award for professional excellence in emergency management. Hawki, who has served as Lawrence County Assistant Emergency Manager for more than 28 years, received the award at the association’s annual meeting in Lead. The award recognizes coordination, collaboration, communication and commitment to emergency management in South Dakota, said Kristi Turman, Director of the State Office of Emergency Management.
The South Dakota Emergency Management Association has been in existence for over 50 years and has been presenting the Blote-Buck Award since 1971. Individuals nominated challenge the existing system and work to create a true emergency management network. The goal is to continually set the bar higher, encouraging a constant commitment to professionalism in emergency management.
Hawki is employed by the Deadwood Volunteer Fire Department as the executive officer and holds the title of Executive Fire Officer for the City of Deadwood. He is the current chair of the Lawrence County Emergency Planning Committee and a member of the South Dakota Incident Management Assistance Team.
