BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota and South Dakota are celebrating their 123rd birthdays.
The two states entered the Union on Nov. 2, 1889. President Benjamin Harrison signed the admission papers for the two states on that day. North Dakota became the 39th state, and South Dakota the 40th.
North Dakota Secretary of State Al Jaeger says people should use the day to reflect on the state's past and the prospects for its future. He says he thinks of the pioneers who built the state, and how fortunate it is to have a good economy.
