(Wyo.)-EPA Fines Sinclair $378,000 For Air Violations
CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says Sinclair Oil has agreed to pay a $378,000 fine for violating the Clean Air Act at its refinery in south-central Wyoming.
The EPA says a 2010 inspection revealed that Sinclair didn't take steps to control releases of a range of toxic substances and hazardous gases.
The Sinclair Refinery has had several accidents and releases over the past several years. The EPA said Thursday the settlement will help ensure compliance with industry standards.
Salt Lake City-based Sinclair has agreed to update operating procedures and implement other measures to lessen the possibility of hazardous releases from the refinery.
Wyoming's workplace safety agency recently fined Sinclair more than $200,000 for alleged violations related to two fires at the refinery in May.
