(CHADRON)-Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman met with county and other officials last night (Wednesday) in Chadron to discuss and assess the needs of the area after the fires that raged through the area this summer. Dawes County commissioner Stacy Swinney says he hopes having the governor’s assistance in the steps that need taken will prove invaluable.

Swinney says fence issues seem one of the most urgent needs of the community on state and private land as well.
Governor Heineman had previously visited the area over Labor Day weekend and expressed interest in helping with restoration efforts once specific needs were established. Swinney says that’s when the community pulled together to evaluate what those needs were.

Swinney says he feels the meeting with the governor was a productive one. He says the governor realizes the rebuilding process is going to take some time and effort and wants to stay involved.
