(CHADRON)-Each fall, the Chadron Volunteer Fire Department provides a special opportunity for the Chadron community and residents within the Rural Fire District to help provide financial support to the department for the upcoming year.
As with many departments around the region, the Chadron Volunteer Fire Department works purely on a volunteer basis to provide fire and rescue services to the community of Chadron and the Rural Fire District. Tax dollars purchase the fire trucks, fuel, repairs, and any equipment needed for the fire trucks. The department also owns and operates two rescue units, an equipment truck, and a command vehicle. These four vehicles and their equipment are purchased from monies collected by the fund drive, along with memorials and donations received throughout the year.
In conjunction with the department’s annual fund drive, Fire Chief Pat Gould says the community is invited to an open house and spaghetti feed on Sunday, October 7th from 10:00-2:30 p.m.

Gould says the open house also kicks off a week of fire prevention tips and school visits.

Despite the extensive amount of fires and other events the department was called out on this summer, Gould says due to the generous support of the community, he anticipates that the department should be alright financially into the foreseeable future.

Gould says right now is a good time to be a firefighter as it feels nice to know what a difference the department has made and continues to make in and around the community.
