(CHADRON)-The Chadron city council will convene for a shorter than normal meeting at 3:00 p.m. this afternoon (Monday) at City Hall council chambers, 234 Main St. The meeting is being held earlier in the day so that council members can attend and participate in a three county-wide planning session for the creation of a long-term fire recovery action plan due to the recent wildfires. Items on the agenda include department and city manager reports including distribution of a brochure prepared by the Nebraska Public Power District regarding the East Niobrara Industrial Site. Also on the agenda, a proclamation for a Worldwide Day of Play on October 6th, approval of claims, and a resolution regarding a special designated license.
As for the fire planning session, county commissioners from Dawes, Sheridan, and SiouxCounties will host the session to discuss ideas such as logging usable lumber, completing fences, planting trees and supporting those who are grieving losses from the fires. The meeting will be held at Chadron State College’s Student Center ballroom from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Anyone affected by the fires is encouraged to attend the meeting and take part in the facilitated discussion. The vision is to create a 90-day action plan to communicate local needs with the governor at a meeting planned for mid-October. This will be an action-oriented discussion, with the intent to have a coordinated plan to avoid duplication and ensure sustainable efforts over the long haul. Both meetings are open to the public.
For additional information about the planning session, call your local county commissioner.
