(Neb.)-Power Crews Working Hard To Repair Fire-Damaged Poles

By: Chris Fankhauser Posted at: 08/31/2012 10:19 AM

(Chadron)-Northwest Rural Public Power District crews are staying almost as busy as fire crews this week with repairs to power lines and poles in the burn areas. Russ Reichenberg, Line Superintendent with NWRPPD, said there is a lot of damage to poles in the West Ash Fire area, but is not sure exactly how many. He said that many areas right now are inaccessible to power crews.

Reichenberg said the majority of customers in this area still have power, but as it was announced earlier, they were asked to turn off power south of Chadron State Park for approximately 24 hours, which he said will affect about 42 customers. East on Table Road, Reichenberg stated there are numerous poles with damage. When crews find the damaged poles, he said they will fix the poles that are tipping first, even though there are numerous poles that are damaged.

According to Reichenberg, they know how important it is for people to have water right now, so they are doing what they can to keep the power on, which provides electricity for pumps in water wells.

In the Sheridan County area of the Wellnitz Fire, more specifically in the Metcalf Reserve region, Reichenberg said most of the customers in that area still have power as well, but there are also poles down. Crews have been working in both areas to keep power on and work on replacing poles. He stated that crews will be working for quite a while to come
