(Neb.)-Updated Information On Sheridan County's Wellnitz Fire
(Rushville)-While crews in Dawes and Sioux Counties have been battling wildfires in timber, crews in Sheridan County are also fighting a fire of their own. According to the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office, one major fire is burning in the northern part of the county.
It was originally thought that two fires were burning. However, it was clarified on Friday morning that there is only one fire, called the Wellnitz Fire. A fire had started north of Hay Springs on Wednesday, but crews were able to put that out. The fire north of Rushville expanded to the west and caused evacuations all the way west to Beaver Wall.
As of Friday morning, the fire was still moving to the west and south, but no new evacuations were being ordered. Crews at the Rushville and Hay Springs fire halls are still taking donations of supplies, with new requests including leather shoelaces.
