(Chadron)-Chadron educators were invited to attend a national convention in New Orleans recently after a request by the Nebraska Department of Education. Lorna Eliason and Dee Dee Grant were two of those attending the 21st Century Of Learning Center Summer Institute.
Eliason said the Nebraska DOE asked the after school program to attend the conference and make a presentation after their involvement with the Nebraska Blast program and the STEM Grant. One of the reasons they were asked to attend was the 10 year success at the middle school level of the after school program.
Grant said they realized it was a “big thing” after a couple of days in attendance, and were very lucky to not only be able to go to the conference but also attend after school seminars as well. Both Grant and Eliason said many of those in attendance were excited to find out that the Chadron schools participate in the Summer of Innovation as well.
Although the Chadron schools did not have the funding set aside for travel expenses, the NASA Nebraska Space Grant was able to fund the expenses, providing this learning and sharing experience for the program. The women were also able to meet one of the NASA designers whose program they used in the after school activities.
