(Neb.)-Crews Quickly Tackle Grass Fire South Of Chadron

By: Chris Fankhauser Posted at: 07/27/2012 01:46 PM

(Chadron)-Chadron fire crews were called to a fire on Goffena Road Friday afternoon shortly after 1. Scanner traffic indicated the fire started in or near a corral. Crews responded quickly, and were able to have the blaze contained by 1:30. However, they were going to stay on scene to perform mop-up duties. It is unclear at this time what ignited the blaze.  The flames did hit some timber, but it appeared it remained mostly in grass.

Crews in Crawford are still battling the Steineke Fire, located approximately 10 miles south of town. Earlier on Friday morning, mutual aid was requested of Chadron for that blaze. The Ash Creek Fire was reported as being 100% contained as of Thursday, with a total size of 2003 acres.
