(Wyo.)-Busy Week For Firefighters, 41 Fires Started Since Saturday

By: Roxie Graham-Marski Posted at: 07/19/2012 11:38 AM
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - It's been a busy week for firefighters in northeast Wyoming.

Dozens of wildfires broke out in Crook, Campbell and Weston counties since last weekend. Most fires were started by lightning.

Crook County Fire Warden Gari Gill counts 41 fires since last Saturday alone in his county. Most have been in forested areas.

He says the fires have stretched resources, but firefighters have been able to contain the fires quickly. He says local ranchers have been helpful in both spotting fires early and helping to fight the fires.

Meantime, Glendo State Park in southeast Wyoming is completely open after the east side was closed down for several days because of a wildfire burning on nearby Wyoming National Guard land. Firefighters have gained about 50 percent containment on the 22-square-mile Sawmill Fire.
