CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Firefighters are gaining ground on a wildfire in southeast Wyoming, and all of Glendo State Park will be reopened Thursday in time for the weekend.
The Sawmill Fire has burned about 22 square miles southeast of Glendo State Park. It was 50 percent contained Wednesday. Some 275 firefighters aided by helicopters and air tankers are battling the fire.
Campgrounds on the east side of the park are scheduled to reopen Thursday after being closed as a precaution. The west side and Glendo Reservoir have remained open.
The fire started on Wyoming National Guard training grounds on Saturday and has stayed largely on the Guard land.
State Forester Bill Crapser says firefighters also are attacking a number of new wildfires in northeast Wyoming's Crook, Campbell and Weston counties.
