(Neb.)-Chadron City Council Has Tough City Manager Decision Ahead Listen
By: Roxie Graham-Marski Posted at: 07/18/2012 01:24 PM
(CHADRON)-Members of the Chadron city council have quite a bit to deliberate after Tuesday evening’s interview phase with city manager candidates Barry Cook of Green River, Wyo., and Wayne Anderson of Chadron. Council members took turns asking both candidates, in separate interview sessions, 20 prepared questions. Questions ranged from what they’ve enjoyed most about their previous or current job to their approach toward managing people and what accomplishments and qualifications have prepared them for such a position.
Both candidates agreed to live in city limits and are familiar with a small town way of life. They also were able to ask questions of the council that they as candidates had. Both candidates stressed loyalty, teamwork, and communication as essential elements in their role as city manager. They also mentioned the importance of getting out to meet with and listen to members of the community as well as managing people by helping them to achieve their goals, so they can be a help in return.
Council member Jim Mapes said he was excited by how well everything went.

The council plans to take this week to mull over both candidates and try to reach a decision as to which candidate they feel is the best fit for Chadron. Mayor Karin Fischer says choosing one candidate is not going to be easy.

The council is open to community members’ input and suggestions. Feel free to contact Mayor Karin Fischer, Vice Mayor Donny Grantham, or members Jim Mapes, Bill Barth, and Levi Grant, in this regard. For those who missed out on the interview process Tuesday evening, Fischer encourages stopping by City Hall for a CD of the proceedings.
The council will meet on Monday, July 23rd at 6:00 p.m. to make a formal decision as to who will become the new city manager.
