(CRAWFORD)-A chemical spill occurred on Highway 20 just east of Crawford on Saturday morning. The accident occurred as sixty-year-old driver Lavern Peters of Brush, Colo., was heading eastbound out of town in a semi tractor and pulling a trailer that was loaded with 300 gallons of acid. Peters somehow lost control of the trailer, which swung around and ended up pulling the semi into the south ditch, where it turned on its side. The trailer was totaled and was leaking acid. The semi tractor was also totaled. Peters was using a seatbelt and apparently did not sustain any major injuries. A two mile stretch of Highway 20 was closed for approximately five hours as a Hazmat crew cleaned up the spill.
