(Neb.)-Smoke In Area From Out Of State Fires
(Chadron)-Once again the 911 Communications Center in Chadron is receiving a lot of phone calls regarding the smoke in the area. According to Tony Serbousek, 911 Coordinator, there are currently several fires surrounding our area in South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado and Central Nebraska.
Serbousek said that area fire department personnel have been checking the area and as best as crews can tell there are no actual fires in the immediate area. He said if people smell smoke and only see haze, it is more than likely just smoke from these surrounding fires reaching our area.
People with respiratory concerns should use caution and stay indoors if the smoke is bothersome. Nevertheless, if people see an actual column of smoke or see actual flames, they are asked to please call 911 immediately and report it. Also, as a reminder, everyone is urged to enjoy the 4th of July holiday but to be extremely careful with fireworks. With the extremely dry conditions it will not take very long for a fire to start.
