(Neb.)-Miss Nebraska Mariah Cook Considers Chadron Home

By: Chris Fankhauser Posted at: 06/27/2012 07:05 PM

(Chadron)-The community welcomed home Miss Nebraska Mariah Cook on Wednesday evening at a reception at the Mari Sandoz Center on the Chadron State College Campus.  The reception, held at the atrium, also served as a fundraiser for Cook as she prepares for her year-long reign.

Several other members of area royalty were in attendance, as were various pageant officials on both the state and local levels.  Cook introduced her family, which included her birth mother and half-siblings, before entertaining the crowd with a piano ensemble.

Chadron Mayor Karin Fisher read a proclamation stating that the City of Chadron was proclaiming June 27, 2012 as Mariah Cook Day, and also presented Cook with the key to the City.  Cook jokingly stated it would be too big to put on her key chain.

Chadron State College Interim President Dr. Randy Rhine told those in attendance that he was not at all surprised that Cook was awarded the crown, as he has always known her to be outgoing and very personable.  He stated that the college was very proud of the CSC senior.

Cook will be participating in the Miss America Pageant in January in Las Vegas, Nevada.
