(Neb.) - Semi Driver Arrested After Motorcycle Death Of Chadron Man

By: Chris Fankhauser Posted at: 06/22/2012 11:38 AM

(Chadron)-The Dawes County Attorney’s Office has issued a press release regarding the fatality accident west of Chadron during the late night hours on Thursday.

According to the press release, at approximately 11:45 Thursday evening, the Nebraska State Patrol was called to the accident at the intersection of Highways 385 and 20 west of Chadron. The investigation revealed that the semi, driven by 59-year-old Darrell White of Dix, NE, was traveling southbound on Highway 385, not turning north as earlier reported. White was stopped at the stop sign and turned eastbound onto Highway 20.

As a result, he collided with the motorcycle, ridden by 51-year-old Kirk McDowell of Chadron. McDowell was eastbound on Highway 20. McDowell was transported to Chadron Community Hospital and pronounced dead from his injuries.

White was arrested for failure to yield right of way, failure to sign a citation/summons, and motor vehicle homicide, which is a Class I Misdemeanor. White was transported to Dawes County Jail, with bond set at 10% of $10,000.

An autopsy for McDowell was ordered at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Other information released earlier in the day caused some confusion as to the location and details of the accident. As more information becomes available, we will pass that along to our listeners. Chadron Chief of Police, Tim Lordino, acted as coroner.
