(Neb.) - Neb. police ID body as pharmacy gunman's father
By: John Thayer Posted at: 06/13/2012 01:05 PM OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Authorities say the father of a gunman involved in a pharmacy standoff in a western Nebraska city was found dead at a nearby home during the 14-hour ordeal.
Andres Gonzalez tried to rob the downtown Alliance pharmacy Tuesday morning, and took its owner hostage.
The Nebraska State Patrol says the body of Gonzalez' father, 62-year-old Larry Gonzalez, was found about an hour later at the Gonzalez' home.
The pharmacy standoff escalated into a shootout with police and ended early Wednesday with Andres Gonzalez' death. Two Alliance police officers, a state patrolman and the pharmacy owner were wounded.
Box Butte County Attorney K. J. Hutchinson says this is a complicated case that must be reviewed by a grand jury because officers were trying to arrest Andres Gonzalez when he died.
