(Neb.) - Coy Bila wins regional Pitch, Hit and Run competition

By: John Thayer Posted at: 06/11/2012 11:54 AM
Coy Bila had a goal on May 6.

It was to win the Pitch, Hit and Run competition, hosted by Chadron Kiwanis, and advance to the sectional.

He did that. And then he won again and had a chance to compete this weekend at Coors Field in Denver. Bila was joined by two other competitors from a four-state region all with the goal of winning the competition for a chance to go to the All-Star game in Kansas City for the next level.

Bila won again.

The win, however, does not guarantee Bila a spot in the National Finals. Now he must wait for all 29 other team competitions, held at every Major League ballpark, to be completed over the next two weeks.

Once completed the top 3 scores of all competitions combined will advance to the National Finals. Nationals Finalists receive an all-expense paid trip to the All-Star Game. Finalists will participate in an array of festivities and will compete prior to shagging fly balls during the home run derby and attending the All-Star game.

The announcement will be on the MLB Network around June 26.

Zach Sandstrom is the only other Chadron resident to advance to the National level.
