(Hay Springs)-The Third Annual Highway 20 Cancer Walk is taking place in Hay Springs on Saturday morning, with registration beginning at 8 am at the city park. One of the event organizers, Amanda DeCoste, said there have been over 100 who have already registered, but are hoping there will still be more on Saturday morning.
The registration fee is $25, however, there are limited shirts available, so DeCoste said they would take a free will donation for those not receiving t-shirts. The walk will cover 8 miles within Hay Springs, and people are welcome to participate even if they don’t anticipate completing the trek. She also invited children to ride their bikes on the route.
This year, the money raised will be donated to Kyle Janssen and Chase Musgrave, both of whom are suffering from forms of cancer and have ties to the community. The first year of the walk, DeCoste said the money was donated to the American Cancer Association, and the Children’s Hospital in Denver received the funds the second year.
DeCoste felt she would like to start the event because she wanted to show support to families going through this struggle, as her mother-in-law was also a cancer victim. Anyone wanting more information can contact DeCoste at 308-360-1846, or Cammie Tobiasson at 308-760-4921.
