The Chadron Police Department once again participated in the national “Click it or Ticket”
campaign during the week of May 21, 2012 to June 3, 2012 thanks to a grant from the Nebraska
Office of Highway Safety. Ten patrol officers and three dispatchers participated in the
campaign. A total of fifty two hours were worked spending a total of $1341.92 of the overtime
budget which will be reimbursed to the city by the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.

During the two week enforcement period 33 citations and 101 warnings
were issued to drivers. Six citations were issued for seat belt violations and two citations were
issued for child restraint violations. Other violations drivers were cited for include speeding,
stop sign violations, no proof of insurance, driving under suspension, no operator’s license,
headlights/taillights violations, overloaded front seat, unlawful display of plates, and open
container. Other activities include two arrests for driving under the influence.

A survey was conducted during the week of May 7, 2012 to observe seat belt usage. The result
of the survey showed 51 percent of drivers in Chadron use their seat belts. A second
survey was conducted after the campaign during the week of June 4, 2012. The result showed an
increase by 16 percent with 67 percent of drivers using their seat belt.

The Chadron Police Department would like to thank the community and the Nebraska Office
of Highway Safety for supporting our efforts to increase awareness and inform the public of the
importance of proper seat belt usage. The Chadron Police Department wishes everyone a safe
and enjoyable summer season.
