(Neb.) - Fire contained in Box Butte County (Updated - 5:40 p.m.

5:40 p.m. - The fire has been contained. The total number of acres burned are unknown at this time. According to a witness the fire began at the Mirage Flatts irrigation ditch and spread on the McClarens Ranch. The witness said they had been fighting the blaze since 1:00 p.m. The fire was contained near the houses on the ranch. Another witness said crews from Hay Springs were also on scene. Neighbors also showed up to assist with the fire.

3:54 p.m. -The Chadron Fire Department was called to assist Hemingford and Alliance crews Monday afternoon at the scene of a grass fire near Old Dunlap Road in Box Butte County.  No specific information is available on the blaze, however, smoke could be seen from Chadron.  As more information becomes available, we will pass that along to our listeners.
