EDGEMONT, South Dakota (AP) - Edgemont is losing an assisted living center and a clinic.
The last resident of Edgemont's Cactus Hills Retirement Community, which was operated by a community board, moved out Friday.
Custer Regional Hospital announced it will close the limited services clinic it has operated in Edgemont for more than 20 years at the end of June.
Victoria Schmidt, chief executive officer for Custer Regional Hospital, said that closing the clinic was an economic decision. She says closing the Edgemont clinic will free up resources to help expand a clinic in nearby Hot Springs.
Edgemont Mayor James Turner says losing the clinic and assisted living center is a double whammy for the community of more than 750 people.
