(Neb.) - NSP Troopers Conduct Second 2012 Community Celebration Enforcement Operation

By: John Thayer Posted at: 05/11/2012 08:55 PM

(Scottsbluff, NE)-   The Nebraska State Patrol conducted a special enforcement operation focusing on impaired driving on Saturday May 5, 2012 in Dawes County.  The selective enforcement was possible due to a $5695.00 grant funded by the Panhandle Prevention Coalition (PPC) that focuses on community celebrations.

The PPC grant allows the Nebraska State Patrol to put extra troopers on the roads during local celebrations and will continue throughout the summer.  The troopers will be putting extra emphasis on removing impaired drivers from the roadways.  In the past two years impaired driving has been involved in nearly 40 percent of fatal accidents in the Nebraska Panhandle.

The Dawes County enforcement initiative resulted in 14 motorists being contacted for a variety of violations including speeding, failure to dim headlights, no vehicle registration, failure to stop at a stop sign, and defective lighting equipment.

The next scheduled events are scheduled for June 9th, 2012 in Morrill County and July 4th, 2012 in Dawes County.

The Nebraska State Patrol offers a Highway Helpline for anyone who observes a reckless or impaired driver, or anyone in need of non-emergency roadside assistance.  The Highway Helpline can be accessed by dialing (star) *55 on any cellular phone or 1-800-525-5555 from any landline.
