(S.D.) - Deadwood to replace 6 sets of stairways
By: John Thayer Posted at: 05/01/2012 06:48 AM DEADWOOD, S.D. (AP) - The city of Deadwood will soon replace six sets of hillside pedestrian stairways that connect various streets.
Deadwood public works director Jim Raysor says many of the railings on the stairways don't meet code standards.
Also, he says the steps are smooth, so when it gets icy, they become slippery. The new steps will have traction.
The stairway renovation project will cost approximately $254,000, with the majority of the funds coming from the Department of Transportation.
