(Neb.)-Hot Springs, Fall River County Recovering After Storm

Fall River County and the community of Hot Springs are trying to recover from the strong winds and rain that pummeled the area Thursday evening.
Emergency Manager Frank Maynard said that power has been restored to a majority of the area, after about one-third of the town had been without electricity.
He said crews are working to make sure streets and alleys are open, after being blocked with downed trees. Maynard says all streets are open, but some are still littered with debris which has narrowed the driving area.
The city is requesting that debris from tree or damage, in yards, be placed along the curb after cleaning, or taken to the city landfill which, Maynard says, will open free of charge.
Maynard said residents who need assistance in cleaning up from the storm can call Hot Springs City Hall, at 605-745-3135, where a temporary call center has been put into place.
Maynard said city building inspectors are making sure all structures are safe to live, and work, in after sustaining storm damage. He said the Red Cross had been called in, Thursday night, in case residents needed emergency shelter. It turned out that nobody needed emergency shelter, he said, but some people ended up spending the night with friends or relatives.
