(S.D.)-Wind, Rain Take Toll On Hot Springs

By: Chris Fankhauser Posted at: 07/29/2010 07:56 PM

(Hot Springs)-Another community has suffered severe damage because of a thunderstorm in the KCSR listening area.  Shortly after 6 pm Thursday evening, a storm similar to the one that hit Chadron just one week ago unleashed its wrath on Hot Springs.  Frank Maynard with the Fall River County Emergency Management said that the hail wasn’t as much of a factor in this storm, but the winds were the strongest he has seen in his 30 years in Hot Springs.

According to Maynard, there are a lot of trees with limbs either broken off or uprooted completely.  Power lines are down, leaving at least 1/3 of the town without electricity.  Streets are blocked because of downed trees and lines.  Phone lines also seem to be out.  Maynard said that damage is so severe to some structures that they will be setting up shelters for those who do not feel safe in their homes.

Maynard asks residents to let the Emergency Management agency know if they need assistance with anything, and he will also keep in touch with Stereo AM 610 KCSR to keep people updated on the damage.
