(Neb.)-Hay Springs School Faces Possible Closure; Chadron Schools Face Re-Configuration
By: Chad Franzen Posted at: 02/08/2010 10:35 AM
The Hay Springs school board will discuss the possible closure of a K-8 rural school at its meeting tonight.
Hay Springs superintendent Steve Pummel said the possible closing of District 30 at Mirage Flats is based on finances, not the quality of education at the school. Pummel, who is in his first year as Hay Springs superintendent, said he believes the school has faced the possibility of closing for the past two or three years.
The school employs three teachers and various support staff. It serves 21 students. The school board meeting is at 7 pm, in the Hay Springs High School cafeteria, and is open to the public.
The Chadron School Board, meanwhile, will discuss a proposal for re-configuring grade levels for Kenwood and East Ward. Currently, both schools serve students in grades K-4. The Chadron School Board meeting is at 5:30, this evening, in the Central Office Board Room.
