CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Gov. Dave Freudenthal is going public with his thanks for volunteers who are sending Wyoming elk jerky to troops serving overseas.
Freudenthal visited troops from Wyoming in Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan in November. He says many of them mentioned that they missed not only their families, but also missed the Wyoming hunting season. In response, volunteers are shipping 185 pounds of elk jerky to Kuwait.
Freudenthal says two cow elk were harvested at the NX Bar Ranch in Sheridan and processed at Pearce Processing in Casper.
The governor also credits the Wyoming Game and Fish Department for coordinating the effort and the Wyoming Game Wardens Association and Wyoming Biologists Association for helping with the shipping.
