PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A bill tinkering with new driver licensing documents will be debated in the South Dakota House.
A committee on Thursday decided to remove a requirement that people must show two documents confirming their address when they apply for a driver's license. The requirement - and others to confirm identity - are part of a federal law aimed at improving national security and preventing identity theft.
Sponsors said the address confirmation can be a burden for people who move often or have a post office box as their address.
Opponents cautioned that licenses issued without meeting all the federal rules can't be used as identity when boarding airplanes or entering a federal building.
