PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota lawmakers on Thursday rejected a bill that would ban the use of camera systems to catch motorists who speed or run a red light.
Arguments in the House Transportation Committee focused mostly on personal rights versus the power of local governments to decide local issues.
The only camera system in the state is used at a busy intersection in Sioux Falls. It photographs the license plate when there's a violation and then a citation is sent to the registered owner of the vehicle.
