(Neb.)-Bereuter Sets Exit From Job with Asia Foundation

By: Chad Franzen Posted at: 02/03/2010 06:54 AM

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Former Nebraska Rep. Doug Bereuter will be leaving his job as president and chief executive of The Asia Foundation.

The foundation has announced that Bereuter will step down on Sept. 1, finishing his six-year commitment.

His replacement has not been named.

The foundation says the 70-year-old Bereuter hopes to do some teaching and take some limited public-policy role.

The Republican served Nebraska's 1st Congressional District for 26 years, announcing in December 2003 that he would leave the House.

The Asia Foundation is a nonprofit organization that has its headquarters in San Francisco.

Founded in 1954, the foundation says it is committed to the development of "a peaceful, prosperous, just, and open Asia-Pacific region."
