(Neb.)-Christmas Tree Cutting Permits Available

By: Chad Franzen Posted at: 11/19/2009 07:47 AM

For those who prefer to venture into the Nebraska National Forest to cut their Christmas tree, permits will be available starting Monday, November 23rd.
Permits can be purchased for $10.00 at the Pine Ridge Ranger District/Nebraska National Forests and Grasslands Supervisor’s office located at 125 North Main, Chadron, Nebraska. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Each permit will include a map that identifies national forest areas on the Pine Ridge Ranger District available to harvest a tree. When looking for a tree, please respect private land boundaries and leave gates as you found them.

Usually, the most suitable ponderosa pine trees are located along the edges of forest openings and it may be necessary to hike away from roads to find the best trees. Depending on weather, road conditions may be poor, so four-wheel drive or chains may be necessary.   For more information visit http://fs.usda.gov/nebraska.
