(Neb.)-No Appeal On Rejection Of Affirmative Action Lawsuit

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - A group opposed to Nebraska's affirmative action law won't appeal a judge's rejection of their lawsuit challenging the validity of petition signatures
David Kramer, spokesman for Nebraskans United, says the judge's ruling still leaves questions about whether a petition circulator has to read the entire object statement to each signer.
Lancaster County District Judge Karen Flowers said some circulators summarized the purpose of the petition, and that was sufficient.
Voters approved the initiative in November, after opponents of the effort filed the lawsuit.
The constitutional amendment prohibits state and local governments from giving preferential treatment to people on the
basis of race, sex, ethnicity or national origin.
