Funeral services for Eli Pedro “Yamni” Tail III “Nakin Wi Zipi,” age 30, will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the Porcupine School Gymnasium in Porcupine, SD. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Eric Cross.
Burial will be at St. Alban’s Episcopal Cemetery in Evergreen, SD.
A two-night wake service will start at 3:30 PM on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the Porcupine School Gymnasium in Porcupine, SD.
Eli was born on May 27, 1987 to Eli Tail Jr. and Jackie (Elk Boy) Tail. He made his journey to the spirit world on January 29, 2018 in Evergreen, SD. Yamni graduated from Pahin Sinte Owayawa and attended high school at Chemawa Indian School in Salem, OR with his twin sisters Molly and Holly. Eli was an accomplished horse person and was especially adept at helping beginners learn to ride. He rode for many years in the Warriors Ride, the Crazy Horse Ride, the Bigfoot/Future Generations Ride and the Artists Ride. Yamni participated as a bareback rider in rodeo and was also an artist and a traditional dancer from a young age. He always enjoyed playing horseshoes with his grandpa Eli Sr. and his brother Cody. He was an actor in the Lewis & Clark re-enactment at the Missouri River in Pierre for two years and in photo shoots near Wall, SD with other family members. He qualified for and traveled to Kentucky and Florida for AAU cross country regional and national meets. Yamni will be greatly missed by his family and friends!
Eli is survived by sons Christopher John Yellow Shield and Jeremiah Johnnie Tail of Porcupine SD; daughter Larissa Hannah Yellow Shield of Wounded Knee SD; grandpa Eli Tail Sr. and Grandma Carolyn Tail; grandma Georgia Tail of Porcupine, SD; brothers Ethan, Lucas and Julian Tail, all of Porcupine SD, Francis Red Feather of Rapid City, SD, and Emory Red Feather of Pine Ridge, SD; sisters Elina Tail, Holly Tail, Molly Tail, Georgene Tail and Selena Tail, all of Porcupine, SD, and Cherish Tail of Allen, SD; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Eli was preceded in death by parents Eli Tail Jr. and Jackie Tail and brother William Cody Tail.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Eli Pedro “Yamni” Tail III “Nakin Wi Zipi.”
