11/13/2017 - Jaylene Pretends Eagle

Funeral services for Jaylene “JJ” Dawn Pretends Eagle, age 34, will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 13, 2017 at the Crazy Horse School in Wanblee, SD with Father Ed Hunt officiating.
 
Burial will be at Gethsemane Episcopal Cemetery in Wanblee, SD.
 
A two-night wake service will begin at starting at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at the Crazy Horse School in Wanblee, SD.
 
An Episcopal Mass will be at 7:00 PM on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at the School Gym in Wanblee, SD
 
Jaylene passed away on November 4, 2017 in Porcupine, SD. She was born on May 5, 1983 to Phyllis Wilcox and Howard Pretends Eagle Sr. in Pine Ridge, SD. She lived in Wanblee, SD with husband Waylon Red Elk Sr. and their children and was currently employed as the 3rd Grade Paraprofessional at Crazy Horse School.
 
Jaylene was raised in Ft. Yates, ND and attended the Standing Rock Community School. In 1991, she moved to Wanblee, SD with her grandmother, Julia Wilcox. Jaylene loved to drive her grandma to Bingo and enjoyed riding horses. She attended Crazy Horse School and participated in Cheerleading, Volleyball, Cross Country, and was a Lifeguard. She also attended Upward Bound for many years. Jaylene then attended Kadoka High School, where she graduated in 2001.
 
In 2005 to 2007, Jaylene began working for the OST Department of Adult Corrections and also the RST Wanbli Wiconi Tipi.
 
In 2007, Jaylene moved to Bismarck, ND and attended United Tribes Technical College to study Nursing. She was on the President’s list and Vice President’s list every semester. In 2012, Jaylene graduated with her Associate’s of Arts degree in Business Administration.
 
In 2013, Jaylene moved home to Wanblee, SD and worked various positions at Crazy Horse School, but enjoyed her time in the classroom.
 
Jaylene was the fourth oldest of seven children, a mother to six sons, and at the time of her death, she was 7 months pregnant.
 
Jaylene’s seven children include Jeriah Clairmont and Buddy Clairmont of Corn Creek, SD, Heath Pretends Eagle-Red Owl of Wanblee, SD, Hoksila Luta Pretends Eagle of Wanblee, SD, Darian Abbey of Bismarck, ND, Waylon Red Elk Jr. of Wanblee, SD and gestational baby son Dallas Dean Red Elk.
 
She is survived by children Jeriah Jason, Buddy Lee, Heath Tim, Hoksila Luta, and Darian Jay, who will greatly miss their mother. She is also survived by mother Phyllis Wilcox of Wanblee, SD; father Howard Pretends Eagle Sr. of Mobridge, SD; brothers and sisters Colin (Connie) Wilcox of Wanblee, SD, Celeste Pretends Eagle of Wanblee, SD, Howard (Becky) Pretends Eagle Jr. of Wanblee, SD, Heath Pretends Eagle of Winnipeg, Canada, Corrina (Charles) Peneaux of Wanblee, SD and Valene (Anthony) Pretends Eagle of Wanblee, SD; numerous aunts and uncles of the Pretends Eagle and Wilcox families; and maternal grandmother whom she loved very dearly, Julia Wilcox.
 
She was preceded in death by husband Waylon Red Elk Sr., son Waylon Red Elk Jr., gestational baby boy Dallas Dean Red Elk, maternal grandfather Floyd S. Wilcox, and paternal grandparents Ollie Breast-Pretends Eagle and Bernard Pretends Eagle of Ft. Yates, ND.
 
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Jaylene Dawn Pretends Eagle.
