Funeral services for Carl Curtis Janis Sr. “Hoksila Pehin Jiji” (The Boy with Yellow Hair), age 27, will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at the Little Wound School Small Gym in Kyle, SD with Father Joe Daoust, S.J., officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Mike Cross.
Burial will be at St. Stephen’s Catholic Cemetery in Kyle, SD.
A two-night wake service will begin with the first night at 3:30 PM on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at the St. Agnes Catholic Church Hall in Manderson, SD. The second night will begin at 12:00 PM on Friday, October 27, 2017 at the Little Wound School Small Gym in Kyle, SD.
Carl was born on April 5, 1990 in Lacrosse, WI to Andre Janis Sr. and Carletta Jumping Eagle. He passed away on October 20, 2017 at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
Carl is survived by father Andre Janis Sr. (stepmother Martha Protector) of Wounded Knee, SD; mother Carletta Jumping Eagle (stepfather Antoine Gay) of Manderson, SD; son Carl Curtis Janis Jr. of Pine Ridge, SD; brothers Christian Janis, Maurice Jumping Eagle, and Wambli Jumping Eagle, all of Manderson, SD; sisters Andrea Jumping Eagle of Rapid City, SD, Brynda Janis of Prescott, WI, Carteecia Jumping Eagle of Manderson, SD, Jackie Randall of Rapid City, SD, Tamara Randall and Kimberly and Ashlee Randall, all of Pine Ridge, SD; grandmother Brynda (Calvin Spotted Bear) Jumping Eagle of Manderson, SD; great-grandmother Mildred Thunder Bull of Kyle, SD; aunts Elena Kindness of Crow Agency, MT, Pamela Janis of Rapid City, SD, Sheila Janis of Minneapolis, MN, and Alicia Jumping Eagle of Scottsbluff, NE; uncles Rico Iron Bear of Manderson, SD and Sylvan Jumping Eagle of Sioux Falls, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Carl was preceded in death by sister Angel Jumping Eagle; brother Andre Janis Jr.; aunt Tara Iron Bear; and grandparents Jean Janis, Curt Janis, and Sylvan Iron Bear.
