Funeral services for Odey Vernon Gregory, age 94, of Hay Springs, NE, and formerly of Chadron, NE, will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron with Pastor Aaron Sprock officiating.
Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Chadron.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron.
Odey passed away peacefully at the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home on October 20, 2017 with his wife Donna by his side.
Odey was born on September 28, 1923 to Edwin Granger Gregory and Eva Line (Hallsted) Gregory on the homestead south of Chadron, the 11th of 12 children. He attended Prairie Home School. He joined the Army in April 1944 and served in northern Italy around Milan and Florence in World War II. Following his service to his country, he returned to Chadron to farm and ranch in the area. He and Donna Jean Moss were married in December 1951. To this union were born two daughters, Deana Kay and Pamela Jean. After leaving the farm, the family lived a short time in Hot Springs, SD and Alliance, NE, but returned to Chadron where Odey worked for many years at the Chadron Tire Shop and then the City of Chadron water department where he retired at the age of 70.
Odey was preceded in death by his parents and 10 brothers and sisters.
He is survived by wife Donna; daughters Deana (Jeff) Winkelman of Dalton, NE and Pam (Tim) Anderson of Chadron, NE; grandchildren Randy (Hilary) Strom of Castle Rock, CO, Shawn (Julie) Grant and Justin (Laura) Anderson of Omaha, NE, Ryan (Gina) Anderson of Chicago, IL, and Lindsey (Isaac) Gonzales of Scottsbluff, NE; great-grandchildren Emma, Ella, and Evan Strom, Connor and Brayden Grant, Kaeden, Ashtyn, Taige and Chase Anderson, and XayVian Gonzales; sister Myrtle Rose Mattson; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
