08/24/2017 - Dale Richard Stahla
Dale Richard Stahla, 61, of Sterling, Colorado, passed away on August 20, 2017.
Dale was born on April 7, 1956 in Vallejo, CA to his parents, Richard and Joyce (Marcum) Stahla. He grew up in Kimball and Chadron, NE, and lived most of his adult life in Sterling, CO.
He graduated from Chadron High School in 1974, where he excelled both in athletics and academics, receiving the Defensive Player of the game award in the 1974 Shrine Bowl. Dale’s skills led him to the University of Nebraska, where he played nose guard and defensive end for the Cornhuskers, before transferring to Chadron State College.
Dale was married to Anne (Rubeck) Frye in 1979, and had one daughter, Tara (Stahla) Carey. In 1985 Dale married Pennye (Griffith) Stahla; the couple has three daughters: Michelle, Hillary, and Peyton.
Dale first worked as an engineer for the Burlington Northern Railroad, before finding his true passion in commodities. He started Sterling Trading Company in 1987. He grew the company into a successful business and cherished his relationships with his clients.
Dale loved spending time outdoors, whether it be golfing, hunting, fishing or driving in his car. He was a true Nebraska Cornhusker Fan. He loved going to his nephew’s sporting events and celebrating in their successes. Dale never met a stranger and he had a smile that could light up a room. He was a great friend to all, and was always willing to share his generous heart with those less fortunate. Above all, he was a family man and spending time with his daughters and grandchildren brought him immense joy. He will be missed by many.
Dale is survived by his parents, Richard and Joyce Stahla; his wife, Pennye Stahla, and his daughters and their families: Tara & Dennis Carey, Michelle & Michael Stahla-Quintana, Hillary & Travis Beek, Peyton Stahla; his siblings Terese & Max Ross, Tammy & Steve Carlisle, Rex & Vanessa Stahla; his grandchildren Hazel & Simon Carey, Addysen Dale & Brayden Beek, and numerous nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents ND & Helen Marcum and paternal grandparents Phil & Lydia Stahla, and his cousin and best friend Michael Shirk.
