Rusty, the son of Darrell and Lou Wilson Marshall and the late Connie T. Wilson, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2017 after a long battle with cancer.
Rusty was born on February 8, 1963 at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee Falls, MA. He attended school in Rapid City, SD. After graduation from Central High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and traveled all over to places like Texas, England, Korea, Iraq, Kosovo, England, South Dakota, Guam, the Persian Gulf War, and Honduras.
After his time in the Air Force, Rusty came back to Chadron and attended Chadron State College, getting two Bachelor’s degrees and a Master’s degree. At the time of his death, he was working on another Master’s.
Rusty was a member of the VFW, Disabled Veterans, and the American Legion.
As a child, Rusty was very caring and always looking out for the other kids. He took on the father role after the death of his dad. Making meals for his family started him on a path that he followed as long as he could in the kitchen, helping with the holiday dinners for the family and making his famous iced tea. The family called it “Rusty Tea.” Something he enjoyed as long as he could.
He attended grade school at Our Lady of Perpetual Help and at St. Therese, where he developed a strong Catholic faith that he had until the end.
Rusty is survived by his parents of Chadron; brothers Jeffery (Lana) Wilson and Gregory (Su) Wilson of Rapid City, SD; sister Wendy (Jeff) Reoh of Rapid City; hunka brother John Briggs of Pine Ridge, SD; two nieces; and four nephews.
He was preceded in death by father Connie Wilson; sister Cynthia Lynne; and brother Thomas James.
Chamberlain Chapel is in charge of arrangements for William Russell “Rusty” Wilson.
