04/14/2014 - Clarence "Ted" Coleman

Clarence "Ted" Coleman, age 98, of Naperville, IL, passed away on March 25th.
 
He was born to William and Anna Coleman on August 4, 1915 in Hay Springs, Nebraska. Ted grew up on a homestead in the Nebraska Sandhills. One of his fondest memories was working with his brother Art, digging one of the first wells in the Ogalalla Aquifer to irrigate potatoes.
 
Ted moved to California during the Great Depression and worked for Lockheed building P-38's during WWII. After the war, he moved to Downers Grove, IL with his wife Jeanne where they raised their two sons. He had a successful career as a design engineer for General Motors in LaGrange. After Jeanne passed away, he married Jan Matthias and helped to raise her family. He married Bette Stevenson in 1994 and moved to Naperville.
 
Immediate Survivors:
 
Wife: Bette.
 
Sisters: Rachel and Rosetta.
 
Son, Don Coleman of Albuquerque, NM
 
Grandson: David Wood; and by his son, Ross Coleman, his wife Barbara and their three children, Madeleine, Matthew and Mia of Albuquerque.
 
Stepchildren: Jim and Beth Mathias and step-granddaughter Kris Milburn, Jane Foley and husband George, Robert Stevenson and his wife Sheila and their children Robert and Sarah.
 
His family and friends loved him dearly and will remember him as loving, generous, honest, reliable, humorous and optimistic.
 
Toon Funeral Home of Downers Grove, Illinois is in charge of arrangements.
