11/26/2013 - Zelda C. Gallegos

Funeral services for Zelda C. Gallegos, age 76, of Rapid City, SD, will be Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the Mother Butler Center in Rapid City, SD with Father David Matzko officiating.
A one night wake service starting at 5:00 PM today, November 25, 2013 at the Mother Butler Center in Rapid City, SD.
Burial services will be at 11:30 AM, Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.
Zelda Gallegos resided in Rapid City, SD off & on from now till her passing. Zelda was born in Pine Ridge, SD and attended Oglala Community High School . She grew up in Pine Ridge and in the 50’s moved with her family to Rapid City, where she worked in various different places Elite Laundry, Allards, Alex Johnson to name a few. In the 60’s, she learned how to create Lakota Indian dolls from her brother, Nick Fast Horse and became well known for her creations.
Zelda moved back and forth from Denver, CO to Rapid City, SD and still keeping up with her craftwork while doing other odd jobs like house keeping & laundry work. She managed to sell and do craft shows that promoted her style of Indian handcrafted dolls. Places like White Horse Gallery, Western Trading Post, and Charlie Eagle Plume in Estes Park, CO are just a few of the many gallery and private doll collectors who bought her Lakota Indian dolls.
Zelda met Dave Felix Gallegos in Denver, CO. They were married the 21st day of Oct, 1983 and later moved to Rapid City. There she became involved in Habitat for Humanity, which led to her receiving the 1st Habitat House in Rapid City, then becoming their spokes person.
Zelda was preceded in death by her parents; William Fast Horse Jr, and Elizabeth Spotted Bear Fast Horse, three brothers and two sisters and her husband who passed away on Oct 21st of 1998.

Sister: Marie Fast Horse Lampert of Rapid City, SD
Brothers: Charles Fast Horse (Hazel) of Anderson, CA and Douglas A. Fast Horse (Jody) of Rapid City, SD and her children
Children: Cheryl Hageman (Chris) of Houston TX- who has 3 children and 8 grand children; Leo Gallegos (Gina) of Bloomington, MN- who has 2 children and stepchildren; Gerry Gallegos of Rapid City, SD- 9 children,11 grand children, 3 great grand children; Diane Cisneros of Denver, CO who has 5 children, 10 grand children and 3 great grand children; Dave Gallegos Jr. also of Denver, CO- who have 2 children, 5 grand children and 2 great grand children;  adopted daughter; Bonnita Blue Legs of Portland OR.
Sioux Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for Zelda C. Gallegos.
